🎵mero gam katha pare jadhudh ki nadiya wahe ja🎵At IRMA, our induction is unlike any other. It begins with a screening of the iconic film, Manthan. This old tradition unites generations of IRMAns even till batch 44 (and beyond), fostering a shared understanding of our mission in rural India. Manthan, inspired by the real-life milk cooperative movement led by Verghese Kurien, is a powerful portrayal of collective action and its transformative potential. The post-screening debrief is where the magic happens. We delve deeper, dissecting the movie's enduring relevance. One scene that sparked debate: Dr. Rao's (representing Dr. Kurien) decision to leave the village after facing challenges. It left us confused. Dr. Shylendra's explanation, however, provided a profound lesson: sometimes, change is a seed you sow, not a fruit you reap.Bhola, the villager inspired by Dr. Rao, carries the torch forward, with Bindu by his side. Their success becomes a testament to Dr. Rao's groundwork. It's a powerful reminder that lasting impact often lies in empowering communities, not imposing solutions. Manthan is more than a movie; it's a cornerstone of the IRMA spirit. It teaches us humility, the importance of understanding rural realities, and the power of collective action. It's a lesson I'll carry with me throughout my IRMA journey and beyond.#IRMA #Manthan #RuralDevelopment #CollectiveAction #Legacy #RuralManagement

To all the filmmakers and collaborators in the announced program for the 2025 Sundance Institute Film Festival,Congratulations! I can only imagine the excitement you must feel right now—you are among a select few. That said, as you prepare for the festival and all the buzz it brings, I encourage you to carefully choose someone to represent your film beyond the immediate spotlight of Sundance. When signing with an agent, make sure they outline a clear strategy for what happens if there’s no sale at the festival. Discuss next steps and ensure you understand their plan. Unfortunately, many films lose momentum just a few months after the festival if there isn’t a financial incentive for continued representation. Take advantage of the current interest in your project and consult with experts now, while their attention is on you. Keep in mind that while some agents are deeply passionate and committed, their resources are finite. If you need references for agents who I know work beyond "the buzz," I’d be happy to provide them. It’s also crucial to prepare for worst-case scenarios. Begin raising outside funds for distribution and publicity now so you can keep all doors open, no matter what happens. Be cautious about signing distribution deals that offer no minimum guarantee (MG) and lock you into giving away all rights indefinitely. The distribution landscape is evolving, and flexibility is essential.Take the time to educate yourself on this process, strike a balance between deferring to experts and seeking second opinions, and navigate these relationships carefully to avoid burning bridges.I’m here to support you with advice on approach and strategy to ensure you and your team are positioned for success.Enjoy this incredible moment and celebrate the hard work you’ve put in—it’s an achievement worth cherishing. But remember, this is only the beginning of your journey.xo Jess
